The Backstory:
In 1988, Clint Eastwood presented his film "Bird" to the jury at the Cannes Film Festival.
Whitaker's performance as the saxophone player Parker got noticed with the Best Actor award.
2009, Eastwood was awarded an honorary Palme d’Or for his lifetime achievement by the jury of the Cannes Film Festival. At that time it was only the second time an actor was awarded this honor.
Clint Eastwood is on of the most important non-fiction filmmakers in cinema history. He is not only known for the main proponent of Westerns as an actor, but for his distinctive voice, steely gaze, and stoic on-screen persona.
