The Backstory:
With her innocent charisma, her acting talent and her unmistakable style, Audrey Hepburn became an icon.
As a teenager, she dreamed of a big stage career as a ballerina. But due to malnutrition during the war, her muscles were so impaired that she simply couldn't keep up with the other dancers and had to put her dream aside. Audrey Hepburn basically owes her big breakthrough to a coincidence. While filming a film, she happened to be staying in the same hotel in France as the writer Colette, who was still looking for a leading actress for her Broadway play "Gigi."
She would then become one of the leading film actresses of the 1950s and 1960s. Films like Breakfast at Tiffany's from 1961 or My Fair Lady are still familiar to many people today.
Audrey not only had a great influence in terms of acting, she also inspired the fashion world and
despite having to give up her dream of being a ballerina, her look was copied worldwide: sunglasses, wide skirts, the little black dress and especially ballerina shoes were her trademark.
